Marie Curie's Favorite Poem

"But just to see a chapel like this room,
No bigger: there to watch Polish symbols loom
In warm expanding series which reveal
Once and for all the Poland that is real.
There the stone-cutter, mason, carpenter,
Poet, and, finally, the knight and martyr
Could re-create with pleasure, work and prayer.
There iron, bronze, red marble, copper could
Unite with native larches, stone with wood,
Because those symbols, burrowed by deep stains,
Run through us all as ores run through rock veins."

Great Female Minds Think Alike

Great minds discuss ideas.
Average minds discuss events.
Small minds discuss people.

Make Good Art

Neil Gaiman's "Make Good Art"

"Life is not easy for any of us.
But what of that?
We must have perseverance
and above all confidence in ourselves.
We must believe that we are gifted for something
and that this thing must be attained."

One vial to rule them all...

Did you know that Madame Marie Curie called a vial of glowing radium "my precious"?

It was gift from husband, Pierre, on the night she gave her doctoral thesis.

She used it as a night light.

Marie Curie & Sheldon Cooper

0:26 - 0:39 :D

Amy Farrah Fowler: Come on, Sheldon. We can be like Marie Curie and her husband, Pierre, who spent their days working side by side, bathed in the glow of their love and the radium that ultimately killed her. Screw "Beauty and the Beast." That’s the love story Disney should tell!

One of Big Bang Theory's frequent references to Marie...

Fear NOthing

NOTHING in life is to be FEARED,
it is ONLY to be UNDERSTOOD.
NOW is the time to UNDERSTAND MORE,
SO that we may FEAR LESS.

Le Petite Curies

They said we should contribute to the war effort.
Then tried to stop me when I did.
Keeping a woman in her place
was more important than saving lives...

"A scientist in his laboratory is not only a technician;
he is also a child placed before natural phenomena

One and a half weeks later...

...and we are still decompressing from the first two legs of the tour.

Audience responses are still coming in. Marie's story is still stirring people's hearts, affecting the way they go about their lives. Coming in contact with such a passionate, selfless person does that. Even it's through artistic (fictional) means.

Thanks again, to Jeremy and Melodie Magouirk, Diana Sholley, Julie Mort, Paul Larson, and everyone else at CCT that made our second weekend a success.

Only eight and a half weeks until The Fringe...

On Being Human

"I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being."
~ Oscar Wilde

This was our primary goal in producing Marie Curie: Rogue Scientist, the new one-woman play touring Spring 2012.

We did not want our audiences to simply be told about Marie's life — though that in itself would be interesting enough to experience. The obstacles she faced, and what she achieved in spite of them, would make the best of us feel unaccomplished.

Regardless, what we wanted, and what we hope we have achieved, was for a two-hour glimpse inside the memories and soul of another person. A humorous, passionate, highly intelligent, deeply troubled woman who knew her purpose in life, and refused to let anyone keep her from attaining her life's goals.

Marie changed the world for the better, just like she always wanted. She was "something." She mattered in a world and profession that told her she never would.

Disturbing Theatre

"...There is another kind of theatre... Without your being aware of it, the director transports you from the world of the audience to that of the stage, where you become a participant in the life being depicted in the play. Something has happened to you...

When the curtain goes up you immediately say... 'I believe everything, everything, everything... There is my mother, I recognize her...'

The play is over, you are disturbed...

The elements contributing to your disturbed state of mind and emotions in this case are such that you are made to concentrate and think deeply. After the performance you feel no urge to go to a restaurant. You would like to sit around some happy family table... You feel the need for an intimate talk about life's problems, philosophical outlooks and social questions....

You feel that those people whom you saw on stage last night have become near and dear to you. You want to share their sorrows and their joys. In them you see a part of your own soul."
~ Stanislavski

Thus, is Marie Curie: Rogue Scientist, a new one-woman play.

10% of every ticket purchased for the Chino weekend (3/30 - 4/1)
of the "Marie Curie: Rogue Scientist" tour will go to Kristie's.

If that's what you want...

When you give them the real thing, the audience will leave talking not so much about you but about their lives... They will run out and call their sister who they haven't talked to in ten years or hurry home to hug their daughter, they will move out of a terrible situation or confront their boss―they will be altered in some way―and they come to you backstage and say "thank you!"

~ Silverberg

The tour continues March 30 - April 1, in Chino's 7th Street Theatre.
